Absolutely love this one of the squirrel on the camera and the bird on the camera. May I have your permission to draw or paint these two photos of yours? I would really appreciate it. Please let me know if I have your permission. Thanks.

How long ago? If it falls in water, one thing you can do is remove the batteries before trying anything, open everything that opens and get as much water out of it, blow it with a hairdryer on low until you can't see any water escaping, then get a large airtight container, fill it 3/4 of the way with uncooked rice, then put the gear in with the rice and seal. Let it sit for a week, if nothing shorted there is a good chance the gear will work again. I have a 40D as my main body.

You have my deepest sympathy :-(
I'm surprised the lens is beyond repair though, on an L series lens it seems to me that the glass is by far the costliest component. Have you called Canon and told them what happened? Sometimes they give decent "trade-in" value if you want to replace a lens damaged by an unfortunate incident (it depends on who you end up speaking with I'm told.)

Wow. The 17-40 is $869 in the Canon store as of today, I've known them to be more generous.
